Montego Bay is a popular resort in the northeast of Jamaica. It is the central city of the Saint James province. Montego Bay has a seaport and an international airport. The city is considered one of the best resorts in the Caribbean region (Caribbean).

Attractions

Almost all of Montego Bay’s resort areas have been developed on former sugar plantations. Modern tourist infrastructure is organically woven into the legendary Gregorian mansions. One such resort area is Rose Hall Plantation. Locals still tell the legend of the creepy White Witch who supposedly resided in the mansion at the plantation. The golf course near the mansion is named after this legend – White Witch Golf.

On vacation, travelers should visit Bellfield Great House, the mansion of the famous Jamaican Kerr-Jarrett family. The mansion preserves antique furniture that was used by the first generations of the Kerr-Jarrett family. Not far from the house, tourists will see the Bellfield Great House sugar factory.

The heart of Montego Bay is the cobblestone Sam Sharpe Square, where in 1832 the British hanged Samuel Sharpe, the leader of the Jamaican slave rebellion. In the same square, visitors to the city will be able to take photos of the Sam Sharpe monument to the revolutionary. Near Sam Sharpe Square there is a prison for runaway African slaves Cage prison and destroyed building of the Court, built in the early XIX century and burned down in a fire more than 20 years ago.
