With bumpy roads and wandering livestock, getting around Jamaica can be tricky. Additionally, Jamaica is one of the largest Caribbean islands, and it can take two to five hours to travel from one resort area to another.

Whether traveling to Kingston, Negril, Ocho Rios, Port Antonio, or Montego Bay, vacationers can utilize Jamaica's infrastructure of airports to hop across the island. The United States Federal Aviation Administration has deemed that Jamaica is in compliance with the International Aviation Safety Assessment Program. This program measures a country's ability to oversee aircraft operations.

Previously, Air Jamaica Express was a primary air carrier responsible for shuttling vacationers to their final destination on the island. In 2005, however, Air Jamaica Express ceased its operations. Travelers can still take Air Jamaica flights between certain locations, such as Kingston and Montego Bay, but may need to enlist a charter air service to reach their resort. TimAir Limited and International Air Link provide service to a number of Jamaica's airports. International Air Link, based out of Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, announced that it will expand its service in light of the recent shutdown of Air Jamaica Express.

Flight times around the island vary from a quick 15 minute hop to a short 45 minute flight. Kingston to Montego Bay is a 35 minute flight; Kingston to Ocho Rios is 15 minutes, as is Montego Bay to Negril. Rather than spending time driving on unfamiliar roads, many travelers may opt to take one of these quick flights.

Jamaica is full of diverse landscapes and resplendent beaches. Air travel allows vacationers to quickly move about the country to maximize the amount of time that they can spend exploring the island's rich offerings.
